Tauben & Co — Dank und Lizenzen

Lizenzen und Dank

Stand: 31. Oktober 2026

English version below

Kurz gesagt

Tauben & Co ist kostenlos und nicht kommerziell. Wer mit diesen Bausteinen Geld verdienen will, braucht eigene Lizenzen dafür.

Modell BirdNET V2.4, DOI 10.5281/zenodo.15050749.

Oktober 2026). Lizenz: CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, also nur nicht kommerziell. Zur Collage gehören Stempel-Schriften (SIL Open Font License 1.1), Texturen (CC0 oder gemeinfrei) und Symbole aus Font Awesome Free (CC BY 4.0); die Quellen stehen in der App unter „Über“.

Zeichnungen

Tauben & Co — credits and licences

Licences and credits

Last updated: 31 October 2026

Deutsche Fassung oben

In short

Tauben & Co is free and non-commercial. Anyone who wants to make money with these building blocks needs licences of their own for them.

The reason: the BirdNET detection model is under a non-commercial licence (CC BY-NC), BirdNET-Pi and AvianVisitors under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. BirdNET-Pi says so explicitly: you may not use it to develop a commercial product. The drawings are CC BY-NC-SA as well. “SA” means share-alike: what we change in them is under the same licence. That is why Tauben & Co has no advertising, no sales and no paid tiers.

Who we thank

Tauben & Co is a private project and builds on the work of others. Here they are; the app shows the same list under “About”.

BirdNET was developed at the K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology together with Chemnitz University of Technology (Stefan Kahl, Connor M. Wood, Maximilian Eibl, Holger Klinck and others). Model BirdNET V2.4, DOI 10.5281/zenodo.15050749. We use the model unchanged and non-commercially.

Kahl, S., Wood, C. M., Eibl, M., Klinck, H. (2021): BirdNET: A deep learning solution for avian diversity monitoring. Ecological Informatics 61, 101236.

Our own code

The tools for Pi and server that we wrote ourselves are meant to be published under the AGPL-3.0. Parts that build on BirdNET-Pi or AvianVisitors (for example the voice-filter patch) stay under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 and will be marked as such. The publication is still to come.

A server or Pi image that bundles these building blocks could likewise only be passed on free of charge and non-commercially. That is why the server installer is planned to download AvianVisitors onto your machine instead of shipping it.

Collage by AvianVisitors

The collage, statistics and atlas that the app shows for BirdNET-Go stations are the interface of AvianVisitors by Teddy Warner and contributors: github.com/Twarner491/AvianVisitors. The app contains it unchanged (branch avian-visitors, commit 5950f807 of 22 October 2026). Licence: CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, so non-commercial only. The collage also brings stamp typefaces (SIL Open Font License 1.1), textures (CC0 or public domain) and icons from Font Awesome Free (CC BY 4.0); the sources are listed in the app under “About”.

Drawings

All bird drawings that the app and the Tauben & Co stations show are under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. You may not reuse them commercially and must pass on changes under the same licence. They are AI-generated (Google Gemini, tool and prompt template from AvianVisitors). They are neither photographs nor hand drawings, and they do not match nature in every detail.

Basic stock

The basic stock (about 620 species) was generated with Teddy Warner’s AvianVisitors tool (link). The origin of individual drawings is not documented one by one. We therefore do not say who made which drawing; the credit goes to the tool and its author.

Generated by Tauben & Co

Tauben & Co had some species drawn itself with Google Gemini, using AvianVisitors’ prompt template.

From the AvianVisitors community

A further 1022 species come from other AvianVisitors users who published their drawings openly on GitHub or in AvianVisitors’ bundle catalogue. We took the files over unchanged (copied only; the silhouette masks for the collage are computed from them). When we took them over on 23 and 24 October 2026, the sources were under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0: as a licence file in the repository, and for catalogue entries in the pack’s manifest.

Chain of authors: BirdNET-Lite (K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics, Cornell Lab of Ornithology) → BirdNET-Pi (Patrick McGuire) → AvianVisitors (Teddy Warner: pipeline, prompt template, interface) → the artists in the table.

Voice of the videos

The videos speak with a machine-generated voice. On the server it is Piper (voices Thorsten and Kerstin). The review videos that the phone builds itself from version 1.4 use Supertonic 3 by Supertone Inc. under the BigScience OpenRAIL-M License, run with sherpa-onnx (Apache 2.0) and ONNX Runtime (MIT). The app downloads the voice once (privacy policy, section 3.11). The voice is machine-generated; the closing credits of every video the phone builds say so too.

Is someone missing?

If you miss somebody or a licence detail is wrong, please say so through the form or by e-mail. We will add it.
